Contaminated Recyclables
The town has received notice from the Portage County Solid Waste & Recycling facility that there has been a recent uptick in the amount of trash that is being put in with the recyclable materials. Items such as black garbage bags, regular kitchen garbage/food wastes, clothing, bedding, small appliances and electronics are being mixed in with the recyclable items. When these items are put in with the recyclable materials the town is being charged an extra $95.00 clean-up fee each week that there is excessive garbage mixed in with the recyclable materials.
We are asking that residents take extra care and put only recyclable items in the recycling collection cart and that they put all other items in the garbage collection cart. Thank you!!
Recycling Update
There is a notion that there is no point to separating recyclables since “it’s all going into the same truck anyway”. The trucks that Harter’s is using is divided into two compartments. Please see the video at this link to see how it works:
